Filling the Bucket

by Michael J. Banks, Ph.D.

Life can be draining — emotionally, physically, and spiritually. “Filling the bucket” reminds us to replenish what is being poured out.

We fill our buckets by practicing gratitude, maintaining balance, and nurturing meaningful relationships. When we neglect these, burnout follows. But when we pause to refill — through rest, reflection, or connection — we find new energy for giving and living.

You can’t pour from an empty bucket. Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish — it’s how you ensure that your light continues to shine for others.
